Assistant or Associate Professor of Environmental Policy and Ecology; University of Georgia

The UGA Odum School of Ecology seeks qualified applicants for a full-time tenure-track or tenured position at the assistant or associate professor level in environmental policy and ecology. This position will also hold the title of Director of Policy of the UGA River Basin Center.

We welcome candidates who work in any policy area with a connection to water, such as water institutions and governance, environmental justice, land use, water quality, climate change, imperiled species, nature-based infrastructure, or coastal issues, and socio-ecological systems.

The Odum School of Ecology is world-renowned for its contributions to ecosystem ecology, disease ecology, and aquatic ecology, among other areas. It maintains vibrant graduate and undergraduate training programs, awarding undergraduate degrees (BS and AB), masters’ degrees (MS in Ecology and MS in Integrative Conservation and Sustainability), and two PhD degrees (PhD in Ecology and PhD in Integrative Conservation).

The River Basin Center, hosted by the Odum School, serves to connect interdisciplinary water-related research at UGA with management and policy. As co-director, this position will provide leadership to the policy work at the center, enhance connections with other campus units, and attract external grants and contracts.

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an externally funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate students, and teach courses in environmental policy. Eligible candidates should have a PhD in ecology, environmental science and management, or a related field, and a track record of publishing peer-reviewed articles commensurate for appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates with a PhD in public policy or a related field will be considered if they have the experience or training in biophysical sciences necessary to advise graduate students in ecology; the latter requirement can be met with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a biophysical science or demonstrated publication record in ecological journals.

To apply, candidates should submit: (i) cover letter indicating career goals; (ii) curriculum vitae; (iii) statement of research accomplishments and future research goals (2 pages max); (iv) statement of teaching philosophy and experiences regarding instruction and mentoring (2 pages max); (v) statement of philosophy and experiences in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (1 page max); (vi) three reprints of research papers; and (vii) names and contact information (email address and phone) for three references.

All applicants who apply by November 29, 2021 will receive full consideration, though the position will remain open until filled.

Applications should be submitted to: https://www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/226846.
