Project Overview
This project is auxiliary to Changsheng Chen's Satilla
River water quality modeling project. The main objective of this study is
to map water quality related parameters in the Satilla River system. These parameters
include water temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen. Velocity data will
also be collected using a vessel mounted acoustic Doppler current profiler.
These parameters are most important in Dr. Chen's model to drive the water quality
evolution and they are therefore required in (1) the model initial state definition
and data assimilation, (2) intermediate state comparison and test, and (3) entire
model verification.
Accomplishments:
Two Satilla River surveys have been completed, August 21-23, 2003 and May
10-11, 2004. We acknowledge the assistance and participation of Dr. Keith Gates
and UGA MAREX staff during the second survey.
