Expertise: Bottom/subbottom profiling, process sedimentology, Coastal Plain geology,
aquifer studies, marshland and hammocks, and a variety of other topics
Issues of Interest:
Marshlands and hammocks, aquifer integrity, harbor management, hydrography
and bathymetry
Current Projects:
Georgia Shelf Atlas
Previous and current physical and biological data from the Georgia continental
shelf is being compiled, updated and reinterpreted. The information will be
presented in a map/atlas format on a 1:250,000 topo/bathy base. The information
will include bottom and subbottom geology, geohazards, biohazards, sediment
texture and composition, hydrography, and occurrence and distribution of live
bottoms (reefs). Text discussing each parameter will be included.
Lower Savannah
River and Delta
Based on hydrographic and bottom and subbottom geologic data, a 3-dimensional
process-response model is being prepared. The finished product will have relevance
to groundwater and harbor management issues.
Impact of Private
Docks and Walkways on Salt Marshes in the Wilmington Island (Savannah) Area
A GIS-based study of the shading (and other) impacts on salt marshes within
and around Wilmington Island is underway. The progressive occurrence of these
structures through time is documented by aerial photography.
Location: Continental shelf, Outer Coastal Plain and barrier islands, estuaries and
marshlands.
